FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Good to know ...

1. What should I do if I find a dog or cat on the street in Romania?
If the animal is injured or in danger, try to get it to safety, to the nearest veterinary clinic. Take clear photos of the animal and post notices on social media, or contact us for guidance. If the animal is not in danger but is free-roaming, notify local authorities or the animal control unit.

For emergencies (abuse, cruelty, neglect), you can call 112 in Romania. In all other cases, contact your nearest police station and ask to speak with the animal protection officer. It is helpful to have evidence (photos, videos, location) when filing a report.

Additionally, if you are aware of violations of animal protection laws that do not require immediate police intervention, you can notify the Animal Protection Directorate by submitting a petition via email through the Romanian Police website www.politiaromana.ro, under the Online Petitions section, or to the relevant county inspectorates by visiting the same website www.politiaromana.ro, under the Territorial Units, Online Petitions section.

1. How can I access your free spaying campaign?

We partner with over 20 veterinary clinics in Brasov and the surrounding area. To take advantage of this program, call 0759 077 303 and you’ll receive all the information you need to schedule an appointment and find the location of the nearest partner clinic.

Spaying or neutering is generally recommended between 5 and 7 months of age, but this may vary depending on the animal’s development. Consult a veterinarian to determine the right time. Animals in heat cannot be spayed. Please wait until their cycle is over before scheduling the procedure.

We do not provide free treatments for animals with guardians. Our resources are directed toward homeless animals that arrive in our direct care. In exceptional cases, we offer limited assistance, depending on the urgency of the situation and our capacity.

1. How can I volunteer at the shelter?
If you’d like to get involved, send us a message on social media or give us a call, and we’ll coordinate from there. We need help with walks, cleaning, socializing, transportation, or online promotion. Everyone is welcome to contribute.

Anyone who wants to volunteer their time to help animals is welcome. Previous experience isn’t important, what matters is a sincere desire to contribute to the wellbeing of the animals in our care.

What you’ll need:
– comfortable, old, and weather-appropriate clothes that you won’t mind getting dirty or damaged;
– rubber boots, ideal for any weather;
– to fill out and sign a liability waiver acknowledging the risks involved (the form is available on arrival at the shelter).

*Please note, if you’re coming from Germany, please reach out directly to our partners, Hunderettung Europa, to sign up as a volunteer.

1. How can I adopt a pet from you?

Please read the Adoption section of our website carefully. Adoption is free, but it’s a big responsibility.
The animals are: dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped, registered in RECS (for dogs), spayed (if age permits), and have a health record or passport.

Our partners in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Finland handle responsible adoptions in these countries. They are responsible for promotion, adopter screening, home checks, and the safe transport of the animals.

Germany – Hunderettung Europa

United Kingdom – The Pack Project

Finland – EMBLA Rescue

1. Do you euthanize dogs?

No. We do not euthanize healthy or adoptable dogs. Euthanasia is only performed in extreme medical cases, when the animal’s suffering is irreversible.
