Free spaying in Brașov and surrounding areas
Impact through spaying
At the beginning of 2026, we launched a large-scale spaying campaign in Budila, where we considered the issue of abandoned and homeless animals to have become an emergency. To start, our team has started doing field surveys once a week, to register all the animals in the area, both with caregivers and free-roaming. A clear number of animals, recorded with essential details (spayed or not, housed or unhoused, with medical issues or healthy), will help us understand the true scale of the problem and take concrete action to address it.
A large-scale spaying campaign will follow, through which we hope to demonstrate the effectiveness of spaying programs in controlling and reducing abandoned or homeless animals. Through concrete data, year after year, we aim to show a drastic decrease in the number of new animals in the area, as well as a progressive reduction of homeless animals. We hope these proven results will encourage other governmental and non-governmental organizations to replicate this type of campaign, so that in the coming years we can significantly reduce the overpopulation of free-roaming animals in Romania.

Good to know
What you should know before calling to schedule a free spay appointment:
01. Minimum age requirements
- For both dogs and cats, the minimum age for spaying is over four months for females (the female must not be in heat at the time of surgery) and over six months for males.
- Unfortunately, older animals (over 7 years old), or those belonging to breeds with sensitivities requiring additional investigations (blood tests, ultrasounds, etc.) receive free spaying, but additional costs must be covered by the family.
02. What are the health benefits of spaying for animals?
- Spaying can prevent certain reproductive system diseases, such as ovarian and mammary cancer in females and testicular cancer in males.
- Spaying can also reduce certain undesirable behaviors, such as territorial marking, aggression, and the tendency to run away from home.

- In Brașov, Codlea, Hărman, Sânpetru, and Apata, we have partnerships with a number of veterinary clinics where you can bring the animal you wish to help.
